Dr. Mansour Al-Tawqi, Chairman of the Oman Paralympic Committee and Vice President of the Paralympic Federation for West Asia, participated in presenting lectures in the short virtual training courses programs organized by the Paralympic Federation for the West Asia region via the electronic platform, where he was a lecturer in the “Sports Management and Organization Course in the Paralympic Movement” with the participation of Dr. Misbah Ibrahim Jaafar, Secretary General of the Federation, which was organized on June 14, 2020.

About 500 administrators from West Asian countries participated in the course, and the course aimed to qualify sports leaders and enable them to meet the upcoming developments in the field of managing sports institutions. International and the role of Paralympic committees, federations and clubs concerned with sports with disabilities, the concept of physical and sports activity and the philosophy and concepts of Paralympic sports such as values, goals, strategies and principles of governance of sports institutions.

The Oman Paralympic Committee organized a sports symposium via video communication to discuss ways to develop football for the blind with Arab participation, with the aim of identifying the latest developments and innovative solutions for the development of blind football. And speaking at the symposium were Dr. Mansour bin Sultan Al-Touqi, head of the Omani Paralympic Committee, Adnan bin Mubarak Al-Uwaidi, a member of the Omani Paralympic Committee, and Younis Khatibi, the coach of the national team and his assistant Asaad bin Saif Al-Dhahali.

A number of specialists and those interested in blind football from the Sultanate, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Syria, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar participated in the symposium’s activities. The symposium included many topics, including a review of the history of football for the blind, the beginning of the game in the Sultanate, the mechanisms for its dissemination and development, and the importance of introducing modern games for people with disabilities.

The symposium also touched on the experience of the Omani Paralympic Committee in cooperation and partnership with the private sector, as the Sultanate is one of the first countries that popularized the blind football team in the Arabian Gulf.

The symposium discussed the appropriate training mechanisms that have been developed in the Sultanate for the blind, in addition to reviewing the most important basic skills of the game and the foundations of its training by watching a detailed visual presentation of the modern exercises.

The symposium also reviewed a number of successful international experiences in spreading the game, including Turkey’s experience in giving young blind people the skills of the game, and the gains achieved by training young people in preparing age groups and organizing a general football league for the blind. The symposium discussed a number of creative ideas and finding innovative solutions that would enable institutions and bodies to provide an appropriate and stimulating environment for the blind to practice sports, with the aim of developing competencies and sports leaders in the field of blind football.

The course comes within the framework of taking care of technical cadres in private bodies working in the field of sports and working to develop their capabilities that qualify them to face challenges and reach the top of performance and push athletes to achieve achievements and excellence in the field of sports work.

Where Dr. Kashif Zayed, Professor of Sports Psychology at Sultan Qaboos University, presented a set of working papers in the course, including psychological and social care for athletes and athletes’ motives for achievement and excellence, as well as mental training for athletes. The course aimed to provide learners with modern concepts in risk management in sports institutions and train them on how to define, analyze, treat and follow up risks through a set of exercises on calculating the probability of the occurrence of the risk and the consequences in the event of its occurrence, and the effects of this risk on the institution or sports projects, in addition to Enable participants to assess the situation and anticipate the expected risks. It also aims to assess and improve the risk-based decision-making process, link risks to potential costs and their effects on the sports institution, and identify a set of methods to confront sports risks. The skill of logical thinking to identify risks in the sports field, the skill of risk assessment and analysis, and the skill of preparing Plans to tackle sports hazards.

Within the framework of developing the capabilities and skills of the Omani Paralympic Committee referees and benefiting from international experiences, the Committee represented by Mr. Hamid Al Harthy participated in judging the competitions of the Saudi International Forum for Sports with Disabilities, organized and supervised by the Saudi Paralympic Committee during the period from 24 to 23 March 2019 AD as the first international sports event to be held in the hall Sports stadium, King Abdullah Sports City, Jeddah.

The forum will witness the presence of the most prominent athletes in the world in 3 games (goal ball for the blind – seated volleyball for people with mobility disabilities – and table tennis for people with mobility disabilities), with the participation of 150 players representing 11 countries, namely: Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Iraq, Gambia and Bosnia Algeria, Palestine and Morocco.
