World Championships in Athletics for People with Disabilities

Our national athletics team for people with disabilities participated in the World Championships in Athletics for People with Disabilities that was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, during the period from 5 to 16 November 2019, organized and supervised by the Dubai Club for the Disabled, in which more than 1,300 athletes participated, which represents the last qualifying station. The Sultanate was represented by Taha Al-Harassi and coach Fahd Al-Jabri, and the delegation was headed by Qassim bin Saif Al-Kiyumi, a member of the Omani Paralympic Committee.

Our national team for people with disabilities participated in the thirteenth edition of the Tunis International Forum for Athletics for People with Disabilities, with a delegation consisting of the administrative and technical bodies headed by Rahma bint Salem Al-Hajari, coach Sunni Mustafa Hussein, coach Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Anbari, Asaad bin Mohammed Al-Qarni, assistant coach, and Hani bin Salem Al-Shamakhi, a physiotherapist. And the players, Mohammed bin Jamil Al-Mashaikhi, Taha bin Abdullah Al-Harassi, Fawzi bin Salem Al-Hubaishi and Muhanna bin Fadel Awlad Thani, with the support and sponsorship of the Sunrise Social Development Pavilion of Khimji Ramdas, which continues to support the people with disabilities team in a successful partnership through which the team has achieved a number of achievements.

The players won seven medals, four gold, two silver and one bronze.

Our national team for people with disabilities participated in the competitions of the Morocco International Athletics Forum hosted by Marrakesh, Morocco under the supervision of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) during the period from 25 to 29 April 2019, with the participation of more than 330 male and female players representing 33 countries, where he represented the Omani Paralympic Committee with a delegation composed From 16 players, administrators and technicians, with the exclusive support and sponsorship of the Eshraqa program at Keiji Ramdas Foundation and Tolks, the forum is an opportunity for our players to book the qualification ticket to the 2019 World Championships in Dubai and the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Our national team was represented in the tournament by: Fawzi Al-Hubaishi, Muhammad Al-Mashaikhi, Muhammad Al-Qasimi, Sultan Al-Sinani, Muhanna Awlad Thani, Taha Al-Harassi, Qusai Al-Rawahi, Imad Al-Hajji, Sarah Al-Anbouri and the Hebrew banner, while the Sultanate’s delegation to the forum was headed by Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Hinai, with the participation of the physiotherapist Hani Al-Shamakhi, the ten players and the technical staff. It consists of four between a coach and an assistant.
During the team’s presence in Marrakesh and after the initial tests of the players, the new player Muhanna Fadel Awlad Thani was classified in the F33 category, the player Qusay Muslim Al-Rawahi in the T12 category and the player Imad Abdullah Al-Hajji in the T12 category.

Where our team achieved seven colored medals as follows: (4) gold medals, (3) silver medals, and (2) bronze medals, while 6 players qualified for the world championship that will be held in Dubai in November 2019, and 5 players qualified for the world championship that will be held in Tokyo 2020 AD.

In the context of giving the national teams the opportunity to gain skills and experience, the national wheelchair basketball team participated in the International Basketball League hosted by Marrakesh, Morocco during the period from June 24 to July 1, 2018, with the participation of the French, German, Moroccan, Algerian and Iraqi teams.

The delegation participating in the international basketball league was headed by Akram bin Saif Al-Maawali, Vice-Chairman of the Omani Paralympic Committee, along with national coach Yaqoub Al-Nadabi, his assistant Musa Al-Siyabi and physiotherapist Hani Al-Shamakhi, along with 12 players: Zaher bin Khalfan Al-Atabi, Younis bin Hammoud Al-Toubi and Hafez bin Salem Awlad. Within the framework of the Omani Paralympic Committee’s keenness to participate in world championships and benefit from those experiences, the Committee participated in the World Championship for People with Cerebral Palsy, hosted by Spain, with a delegation consisting of Mr. Al-Mashaikhi is the player of our national team for people with disabilities

The Sultanate’s national team player, Muhammad Al-Mashaikhi, won the men’s shot put gold with a number of 10.14, surpassing his competitors in the race.

The hero of the Sultanate, Muhammad Al-Mashaikhi, expressed his happiness and said: My happiness cannot be described with this achievement, which represents great joy and an incentive to continue the achievements and honor the Sultanate in international forums.

He added, “The ambition from the beginning was high, to achieve gold and add a new achievement to the Sultanate, after it achieved a number of gold, silver and bronze medals in a number of Asian and international events and championships. The first, and this is all thanks to God and his end and thanks to the determination and will that was born in us. I also dedicate the achievement to my dear mother and my family who stood with me and supported me throughout the preparation and training periods, and thanks to the coach whose guidance was credited with enhancing my skills and thanks and appreciation to the Board of Directors of the Omani Paralympic Committee for insisting for Participation We hope that this achievement will motivate the supporting bodies to support and increase support for the team.

Tunisian Sonia Mustafa, coach of the national team for the disabled, expressed her overwhelming joy at the gold medal achieved by Muhammad al-Mashaykhi at the world level. She explained that the player made a great and double effort during training, as all these factors were real keys behind this achievement.
She explained that the figure achieved by our player, Muhammad Al-Mashaikhi, which is 10.14 meters, is a good achievement for the Omani Paralympic Committee, and it came after a great effort. God willing
