The 2nd Oman Open Goalball Championship 2017 at Sohar University

The Omani Paralympic Committee organized the second edition of the Oman Open Goal Football Championship during the period 13-15/4/2017 at the Sports Complex in Sohar, with the participation of four sports teams from government and private institutions that provide educational services for people with visual disabilities in the Sultanate, namely the Sultan Qaboos University team. The Sohar University team, the University of Nizwa team, in addition to the Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Institute for the Blind team.
The number of participating blind players reached 35, and this tournament was hosted by Sohar University, where the university organized a number of working committees for the success of this tournament and to identify the needs of the participating blind players.

The tournament aimed to consolidate the principle of partnership between the Omani Paralympic Committee and government and private institutions, and to familiarize their fellow students with the fact that the blind student has his own sports, which are practiced in accordance with a set of laws related to sports with disabilities. .
Also, this sporting phenomenon is important for attracting many sports talents and including them in the ranks of the goal football team in the future, and an opportunity to integrate people with visual disabilities with their sighted colleagues in universities and educational institutions and to highlight their abilities and sports inclinations directly.
At the end of the tournament, a closing ceremony was organized in which all the players and referees, as well as students of the group of Insights of Minds at Sohar University, were organized under the patronage of Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Muqbali, Vice President for Student Affairs. The Sultan Qaboos University team ranked third.

About the forum:

The Omani Paralympic Committee organized the goal football tournament in its fourth edition and football for the blind in its first edition, with the participation of more than 40 blind people belonging to a group of educational institutions and branches of the Al Noor Association for the Blind in the Sultanate, at the gymnasium at the Gulf College in Al Maabilah in the Wilayat of Seeb. Paralympic Committee for the Advancement of Sports for the Disabled in General and Sports for the Visually Impaired in particular. The tournament included an arbitration course on the basics of goalball and its laws. This course aimed to prepare Omani referees who are familiar with the changing laws in this game.

At the end of the tournament, a ceremony was held to honor the participants and the organizers, under the patronage of Al-Ahnaf Al-Zubaidi, Director of Social Responsibility at the Oman Liquefied Gas Company.

It is worth mentioning that football for the blind is a Paralympic sport and it spread in the Sultanate as the first country in West Asia in 2017, within the framework of a program supervised by the Oman Paralympic Committee and funded by ENHANCE Company. The Sultanate is the best representation.

About the forum:

The Paralympic Committee organized the Oman Athletics Forum for People with Disabilities in its third edition on January 22, 2019 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, which was sponsored by the Social Development Wing of Khimji Ramdas. This forum included a number of competitions, including the 100m race
200m, long jump, shot put, javelin throw, discus and mace throw. Where the players were distributed in the competitions according to the type of disability. About 102 male and female players with motor disabilities and cerebral palsy participated in this forum, in its third edition.

Visual impairment and intellectual disability.

A number of volunteers from Sultan Qaboos University students affiliated with the Sports and Society group participated in organizing this event, in addition to some employees of the sponsoring company.

At the end of the forum, the sponsor of the ceremony, Dr. Khamis bin Saud Al Tobi, Director General of the General Directorate of Administrative Development at the Diwan of Royal Court crowned the winners of the various competitions, in the presence of Nilesh Khimji, a member of the Board of Directors of Khimji Ramdas, a number of members of the Paralympic Committee and parents.
